Pokemon Center Implements New Queue System to Combat Bots!
The Pokemon Center appears to be rolling out a new queue system during high-traffic periods, seemingly as a measure to counter automated bots. This system was first noticed last Thursday during a minor restock of TCG products.
How Does the New Queue System Work?
When the queue is active, visitors are placed in a virtual waiting room—a static page that must remain open without refreshing. Once your turn arrives, the page will automatically redirect you to the Pokemon Center website, allowing you to proceed with your purchase.
Similarities to the Japanese System
The Japanese Pokemon Center implemented a queue system a few years ago, which has proven effective during set releases. However, its success is also attributed to strict purchase limits—customers can only buy a set number of booster boxes.
Will It Work for the U.S. Market?
As of now, the American queue system has yet to be tested on a major product launch. It remains to be seen whether this will effectively curb bot activity or allow more real customers to secure purchases.
Upcoming English Set Release
As previously announced, our next English Pokemon TCG set will be released on May 30th. While details remain scarce, it is expected to include key cards from:
-
Steven’s Metagross ex and Marnie’s Grimmsnarl ex decks
-
Heat Wave Arena featuring Cynthia’s Garchomp ex
-
The Glory of Team Rocket featuring Rocket’s Mewtwo ex
Preorders for this set should go live on the Pokemon Center website in mid-March—potentially offering the first real test for the new queue system.
Final Thoughts
The introduction of a queue system could be a game-changer for Pokemon TCG collectors, helping to level the playing field against scalpers and bots. However, its true effectiveness will only be determined once it faces high-demand releases.
